There is plenty of controversy around the upcoming Wine Future Conference in Logroño, Spain, this week. Parker is in town and there are lot’s of winemakers who are hoping to snag an audience with the Emperor himself. While Jancis, Oz, Steven and others will also draw big crowds, the other big news is Pancho’s legal troubles. So far, most people who are anti-Pancho have come out with a guilty till proven innocence attitude. That said, I’m assuming he’s just hoping that this conference will run smoothly so that water can gently go under the bridge and he can move on in his life. So let’s follow suit and focus on the basics.
Catavino will be at the conference providing all audio, video, and blogging coverage that we can. If you are not coming, you can follow along at: http://bit.ly/winefuturelive and with #winefuture on Twitter. I will be speaking at 12:15 GMT+1 on Thursday about the Internet and Wine, sharing the stage with the tour de force known as Gary Vaynerchuck.
This conference does have some of the most powerful wine journalists, importers, and trades people out there today, or you might say yesterday. I know that these legends are people we should learn from when looking to the future, but it would be nice to see at a conference called “Wine Future: more voices from the new generation of wine professionals”, not only to learn what they have to say, but also to give them a chance to mingle with the professionals who came before.
I know we’re going to have fun, and we truly hope you join us!
