On the nose, strong notes of coffee, plumes and dark cherry come forth with a slight vegetable or forest aroma in the background. Very light body and structure with medium acidity. On the palate, a strong blackcurrent flavor followed by hints of vanilla and charred wood. Overall, a very nice well structured wine.

2002 Bodegas Fontana La Mancha Fontal Crianza - Spain, Castilla-La Mancha, La Mancha (5/16/2006)85% tempranillo 15% cabernet sauvignon12 months US oakDeep maroonish in color. the nose shows a rich raspberry, with cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla bean, and minty chocolate. Medium tannins and a soft mid weight acidity help support the nice fruit.Ffresh raspberries and light cinnamon follow the nose onto the palate. Alcohol is noticable on the palate though not distracting and this wine did improve with some air.

2002 Joan D’Anguera Montsant Finca L’Argata - Spain, Catalunya, Tarragona, Montsant (5/16/2006)40% Syrah, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Granacha, 10% Mazuela - 14 months French and US oakDeep reddish purple in color. The nose is alive with evolving aromas, of anise, cassis, loamy earth, cocoa, light green pepper, and minerals. Rich and dense in the mouth with cassis, blackberry, light green pepper and pencil lead. A bit out of balance, maybe it needs some time.
